An excellent write-up of using the FlySky i6X transmitter, the one you're using, for combat robotics was done some time back by Run Amok Combat Robotics. The basic changes in the table below will get you started but if you want to learn more and go further then you may find some useful information here - http://runamok.tech/RunAmok/flysky_i6.html

Function Description Steps Video
Factory Reset If you're using one of the shop controllers for the first time you may wish to factory reset it in order to clear the previous user's customizations.

Note that this is NOT a requirement, just a suggestion. You can go straight to the procedure for 'Configure Single Stick Mode' below and if it works as expected rock on! If not you can return here, reset, and try it again.

** BEFORE proceeding review the Bind Transmitter and Receiver section below! If you don't have a Binding Plug you may not be able to re-connect your Transmitter and Receiver!

  1. Turn on the transmitter.
  2. Press and hold the OK button to enter the System Menu.
  3. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to scroll to “System”.
  4. Press OK to enter.
  5. Scroll to “Factory Reset”.
  6. Press OK.
  7. Select “YES” to confirm the reset.

Bind Transmitter and Receiver If you've factory reset your Transmitter if may be necessary to re-bind it to your receiver. You'll need a Binding plug and a way to power the receiver (i.e. fully or partially connected up and with the batter as in class) before proceeding. If you've performed a factory reset and the light on the Receiver continually blinks when it and the Transmitter is on then it isn't connecting and this procedure will need to be performed.

Put the receiver in bind mode

  1. Insert the bind plug into the receiver port labeled B/VCC.
  2. Power the receiver (plug battery or ESC power into another channel like CH3).
  3. The receiver LED should flash quickly, meaning it’s in bind mode.

Put the transmitter in bind mode

  1. Turn off your FS-i6X.
  2. Hold the “BIND KEY” button on the back of the transmitter.
  3. While holding it, turn the transmitter on.
  4. The screen will show “RX Binding”.

After a few seconds the receiver LED should stop flashing and turn solid. This means the transmitter and receiver are successfully bound.

Binding Process
Configure Single Stick Mode There are many different driving configurations, one of them is 'Single Stick'. This is where you control the direction and speed or your 'bot from the right joystick instead of having to use both.

As a bonus, if you choose this driving style, you can then move your weapon from the default Channel 6 to the now unused Channel 3 and use the left joystick to control that part of your bot!

Hardware Steps:
  1. Plug left motor ESC → CH1
  2. Plug right motor ESC → CH2
  3. On the transmitter go to Functions Setup → Elevon
  4. Turn Elevon mixing ON

Configuration Steps:

  1. Press and hold the 'OK' key 'til the 'MENU' screen appears.
  2. Tap the 'Down' key to highlight 'Functions setup' -- tap 'OK' to select.
  3. Use the 'Down' key to scroll down the list to 'Elevon' -- tap 'OK' to select.
  4. Tap the 'Down' key to turn Elevon 'On'.
  5. Use the 'OK' key to scroll to 'CH2', then the 'Up' key to set it to 100%. Leave 'CH1' at 50%.
  6. Press and hold 'Cancel' to exit and save the Elevon settings.
  7. Tap 'Cancel' to return to the 'MENU' screen.
