Grid Location System

The Grid Location System is a layout grid for the space, starting at the washbasin corner, described in numbers widthwise and alphabetically along the depth. This provides a location code for labeling, inventory, and documentation purposes.

The spacing for the grid is 24" for both directions, starting at block A1 and proceeding to block W12 at the back right corner (facing from the door)

Letter Z is reserved for fixture identifiers, with the number as the specifier. Example: Calling a wheeled tool rack "Z1"

Individual tools and items may be marked for particular blocks or fixtures (i.e. a 'Z1' mark on a steel ruler means it always returns to wheeled tool rack Z1). In the case of divided fixtures, the division can be identified with a dot number (ex. Z9.4 for fixture Z9, drawer 4).

In situations where height must be identified, it should be added to the designation with a dot and number of 24" sections from floor level starting from 1 (ex. item in block A10 is 7' from the floor, it would be designated at A10.3)

Tape markers will be placed on the walls at 4' intervals with the adjoining blocks identified. This is the minimum necessary for identifying every block section without over-signing.

Precision: A grid location marked item should be found within one block from it's assigned block in any direction. This provides for a 6' by 6' leeway in placing or finding an item. The assigned grid block should be treated as a centered starting point, not a precise location. As an example, an item that should be found in P7 may be located somewhere within the darkened squares in the above grid image.

This system should be compatible with a future computerized tracking system.
