The access control node is intended to control access to doors. The doors may be exterior doors or interior doors.

User Experience Notes for access control nodes: The user should be able to use a momentary swipe using an RFID access card. The system should provide feedback to the user that the card was read, if the card was authorized, or if the card was not authorized. If the card is authorized, the door should unlock, and the feedback should indicate the whole time the door in unlocked.

Options:

  • Screen - The node could have screen to provide feedback on open access hours
  • Door feedback - The node could have an input to read the status of the door from a magnetic reed sensor. Report if door is open or closed, alarm if necessary.
  • Exterior bypass - For exterior doors where access would lock you out entirely, then have a bypass keyswitch. If applied to an interior zone, then skip. You can disable the node by unplugging from POE switch.

Implementation Details:

  • Motion sensor and press to exit button on interiors to get out with mag lock. With strike plate, are they needed?
  • Schedule feature - the doors should be able to be scheduled to be unlocked at certain hours.
  • Node should be able to provide power to drive door locks, or just interrupt existing power.
  • Remote RFID reader may require weatherproofing, and/or the use of serial communication.

Can nodes be reserved for individuals? May need to apply to both access and tool nodes.
