Quick-View labeling standard

'Tag' is used in this section as the base substrate for an identifying marker.
'Major tag' is the color-coded, most prominent tag.
'Minor tag' covers any accessory tags such as data tags or direct tracking/computerized tags.

Purpose is designated by primary color of the major tag.

Red is reserved for privately owned restricted use items

Orange is reserved for space owned restricted use items

Yellow is reserved for privately owned public use items

Blue and purple are reserved for future assignment

White is reserved for data on minor tags.

Major tags should be at minimum identifiable by color from a distance of 6 feet and no less than 1" in the smallest direction.
The tag must be writable using permanent marker. It is recommended the tag should be removable without causing permanent damage.

Privately owned items of any value should have the owner code on the major tag, in a readable location.

Public use items of low value ($50 or less, or determined to be ubiquitous) may be identified by a major tag alone.

Public use items of high value (greater than $50) should have a data tag with a location code.

Restricted use items of any value or ownership must have a data tag containing owner code, location code, and restriction code.
